Although Dallas is known primarily as a modern and progressive city it also has an impressive heritage. This fascinating tour will bring into focus that special sense of history and show some of Dallas’s most enduring beauty. Situated on 14 acres Old City Park demonstrates thelives of the early pioneers. Thirty-seven structures many with period furnishings and craft demonstrations interpret the life of the North Texas settlers from 1840 to 1910. The park’s collection of lovingly restored historic buildings includes houses ranging in style from simple log dwellings to elaborate Queen Anne landmarks as well as a train depot hotel church school and a small commercial complex. The second part of the tour will take guests on a ride through the Swiss Avenue Historic District. This street is a fascinating collection of early twentieth century housing styles and it was Dallas’s first prestigious address. The beautiful mile-long tree-lined boulevard provides guests with the opportunity to see avant-garde Prairie-style dwellings as well as many eclectic Era styles. Guests will stop at the Aldredge House and drive by the Wilson Block to experience first-hand how Dallas’s early civic leaders lived. A boxed lunch is included in this tour.
